canon-hg10 Highly Detailed, High-Definition Home Videos with the Canon HG10 AVCHD HD Video CameraDon’t you just wish you have a video record of your super-cool, super-athletic and “super-cilious” older brother losing his cool and his dinner the first time he got on a roller coaster?  I know.  Mean thought.  But come on!  Even if you have an entirely different kind of brother – someone not so superlatively gifted and conceited – such a video would still be so much fun to watch.  Never miss another opportunity; capture all kinds of ludicrous acts (and yeah, sentimental and touching moments, too) on HD video with the Canon HG10 AVCHD.

Overview:  The Canon HG10 uses the advanced video codec format to record high-definition (HD) videos.  This innovative video recording format allows for greater detail capture at higher compression rates, thereby letting you record more video while minimizing storage space requirements.  The Canon HG10 AVCHD has a 40-gigabyte hard disk, letting you capture around 15 hours of video in long-play mode or around 5 ½ hours of superb-quality video.  It has a 10x zoom lens and can record true HD videos that can be upconverted to 1920 by 1080 resolution.

The HG10 can be directly connected to the television for direct playback, or videos can be viewed directly on the 2.7-inch, vivid color LCD display.  Alternatively, the videos can be uploaded to a compatible computer (with the required AVC decoder installed) and recorded on the computer’s hard drive or recorded to DVDs and memory cards.  AVCHD videos recorded on DVDs can be played directly on Blu-Ray discs or played on standard DVD players as long as that player has support for AVCHD or as long as the decoder is recorded on the DVD itself.

The Canon HG10 AVCHD has a long list of features, including various shooting modes, auto-focus, still image capture from video, and other features that are pretty standard in HD video cameras.

What You’ll Love:  Videos are clear, vivid, sharp, and have minimal noise – image quality is one of the best in the HD video market.  Photos captured from the AVCHD videos are comparable to those taken with specialized, high-resolution digital cameras.  Great storage capacity, more than what an ordinary home video maker needs although pros probably need more.  Menu navigation is a breeze.  Convenient playback on TV through the HDMI port and easy uploading to the computer through USB port are assured.  More features than you’ll understand and know what to do with.  Read the manual!

Full Disclosure:  The process of uploading your videos to your computer and copying them on to video discs will take up so much computer power that you won’t be able to gain max benefits from this camera if you use an old computer – this is not the fault of the HG10, by the way.  This is rather normal for AVCHD cameras.

This camera does not come with an HDMI cable which will offer the best video playback quality on TV; penny pinchers, you have to get your own HDMI cable.  If you know your way online, though, you may be able to pick one for less than 2 dollars.

Note:  Those who want to get the HG10 should check if they have all the right media playing and computing equipment to get the best results out of this camera.  Only then will you be able to fully appreciate this camera’s full capabilities.  Using non-HD equipment will give you satisfactory results, but you’ll probably be underwhelmed.  Just note that, in this case, it is not the camera’s fault but yours.

This one is, though:  image quality is not as good at low-light conditions as it is in daylight.
