sirius-stiletto-2 SIRIUS Stiletto 2 Portable Satellite Radio with MP3 Player for Music EverywherePlain old radio just doesn’t cut it anymore, folks; it has to be satellite and internet radio with MP3 playback and all the bells and whistles. With that in mind, what better way to exercise your eardrums than with the latest in slim Satellite Radio Receivers?  Can you say “reincarnation?”

Overview: With the new Sirius Stiletto 2, you’re in for a major paradigm shift.  Think the Sirius Stiletto 100, only with a more compact size, a sleeker design and more features than you can shake a stick at.

With the Sirius Stiletto 2, built-in is the name of the game.  Live satellite feeds give you satellite radio.  Wi-Fi connectivity gives you internet radio.  Recording capability gives you hours of your favorite music when you don’t have a satellite link or internet connection.  If playing DJ is more your cup of tea, try broadcasting files over the FM band via the Stiletto 2’s transmitter.  Altec Lansing has developed a special pair of headphones just for the Stiletto 2.  Listeners can treat themselves to some head-banging, foot-tapping fun while remaining oblivious to the rest of the world (although your gyrations will obviously not make the world oblivious to you).

What You’ll Love: One word:  options.  If you’d rather not pay for Sirius’ satellite radio service, you can always listen to your own favorite tracks or in any place that has Wi-Fi access.  On the other hand, if you can afford the service, then no longer being forced to listen to mind-numbing commercials is definitely the way to listen to radio.  Saving something for a better time is always a good thing, and the Stiletto 2’s recording feature helps free you from the tyranny of the present.  The handy replay option insures that you get to savor every nuance of your favorite tracks as often as you wish.  It has sufficient memory to give you around 100 hours of music – the microSD expandable memory is actually overkill.

The Stiletto 2 features something for everyone:  sports team tracking and listings for sports fans, channel lockouts for concerned parents, easy navigational control for one-handed or one-armed folks (sorry) and replay options for obsessive-compulsive types.  Non-techies need not fear drowning in a mire of controls, as the gadget’s interface is so intuitive even an autistic amoeba can operate it.

Full Disclosure: Signal is a big problem with this device.  Depending on where you live, it may be very, very easy or very, very difficult to get a clear signal.  The Stiletto 2 from Sirius has a serious partiality to clear, open spaces.  If you intend to use it mainly indoors, be sure to record your music beforehand, but this kind of defeats the purpose of getting a portable satellite radio.  If you can, try getting close to a window.  If that fails, remove the bulky headphones for a minute, take deep, calming breaths and count to ten so you won’t throw the unit away in a fit of rage.

As with anything that involves software, you may also have to deal with annoying bugs in the form of freezes, errors, crashes and various other issues.  Should these happen, grab your PC and reformat, reboot and reinstall the firmware.  Keep a bottle of water and Extra Strength Tylenol handy for the headache that will surely follow.
