Combining Simplicity and Power – Adobe Photoshop Elements 6
Tell A Friend
by PiranhaJenn
Are you like the millions of other people out there addicted to Friendster, Facebook and Multiply? Perhaps you’re into photography – always aiming to get the best shot, sighing every time the wind or wrong lighting gets in the way? You’re not alone there! I can no longer count the number of times I said “aaaarggh!!!” whenever I miss a good shot. I mean, it’s not like the sun sets so beautifully every day, with just the right clouds and the calmness of the sea making it even more perfect, right? Good thing I discovered Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 – just what we, photography and Friendster-fanatics need!
Overview: Elements 6, available at a price range of $80-$100 online, is an image-editing application that lets you do wonders to your pictures. Its new photo-blending capability lets you create a perfect picture out of a variety of faulty shots. Was there an unwanted pole you didn’t notice when you had your picture taken in Venice? Or did you blink just in time and damaged your supposedly Friendster-worthy shot? No more worries on these small misfortunes – simply use the Spot Healing Brush for immediate results and the Healing Brush for better control. Not satisfied? Don’t save your work! Preview your changes and easily go back to scratch if you don’t!
What You’ll Love: Comparing Elements 6 with its first siblings is like comparing the galaxy to a few big stars! It is user-friendly; no hassle whatsoever of having to read manuals or tutorials for you to be able to benefit from its great features! Loading is also notably faster, guess Adobe noticed that we were all annoyed with the sluggish performance of their first versions. The presence of Smart Albums is also a major change – less trouble dealing with a separate organizer program. Adobe Flash technology was also integrated to allow creation of animated web galleries. Really cool, if you ask me, especially if you have spare time and some creative juices bottled up and waiting to be used. Another thing – if you’re a B&W fan, this graphics program will not leave you groaning. Conversion of colored photos to black and white is pretty decent.
Full Disclosure: On the downside, Elements 6 can only be used with a desktop, and can be used with both XP and Vista but it seems that the latter has more chances of giving you a hard time running the program. An old PC might not also work too well with this. Another piece of advice is to buy a good video card or your PC can become catatonic. The change in the color scheme of the program might also not work okay with the grown-ups – with their aging eyes and all that. Some people say 6 is not even an improvement of 5. I can’t really blame them, especially if they weren’t able to maximize the features of 6 as much as I can. If you’re not into serious photography and are satisfied with “nice” pictures – don’t upgrade to 6. It was made for those who want the best pictures minus the hassle – provided they also have a have a mean machine and a great video card.
