Environmentalists – you gotta love them for their ‘Earthly’ concern. Lovers of fashion, however, probably can’t prevent that little twinge of resentment for their ban on gorgeous animal furs and their insistence that everything non-recycled or non-recyclable can’t be good. Unfortunately, thrift store clothes don’t look as good as brand new ones. Ask someone from Goodwill. Recycling plastic bags, too, don’t just cut it. What? My fashionable self, carrying a plastic grocery bag for shopping? Shudder!
But what about those paper bags you cry? For one it takes more than four times as much energy to manufacture a paper bag as it does to manufacture a plastic bag and second since trees are need to make paper bags their use contributes to deforestation.
So what is the answer to the “paper or plastic” dilemma? Neither. Reusable bags are the real answer! Check out the cute, functional and stylish Baggu Reusable Shopping Tote.
Overview: The Baggu Reusable Shopping Tote is an extremely handy thing to have. It’s reusable, so you’ll not only be helping the ‘trash problem’ but you’ll also be helping the ‘deforestation problem’. Indeed, with just a measly $38 for 6 bags you’ll be earning enough clean-and-green credits for Captain Planet to recruit you into his team of world-savers.
What You’ll Love: Seriously though, the Baggu is a total must-have. It’s stylish, very cute and it comes in an array of vibrant funky colors! The Baggu can even fold into a small pouch (5 by 5 inches) that easily fits into your pocket or purse so you can bring it with you anywhere.
The Baggu’s handles are the perfect length. You can choose between carrying your purchases the usual way or slinging them over your shoulders like a tote bag. A single Baggu can carry 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags’ worth (about 25 pounds) of groceries. Baggus are made from super-strong rip-stop nylon, so they’re light, compact and tough. It also has a big gusset bottom so your Baggu always sits flat when full. There’s no risk of damaging your delicate goods (like eggs and milk cartons) with the Baggu. Its handles are thick and strong, so there’s no risk of breakage.
Full Disclosure: Baggu does not stand for the name of an Italian leather handbag designer (it means “bag” in Japanese in case you are wondering). If you want to look like a million dollars while you shop at the local Wal-Mart, then this bag is not for you. As to why you would wish to look like a million dollars in Wal-Mart, that I don’t get.
Perhaps the only thing that’s annoying about the Baggu is the pouch. The Baggu itself is pretty easy to fold but the pouch where you have to put it in is a separate piece that’s very easy to lose. But the use of these pouches is more or less optional anyway so it’s no biggie.
Overall, the Baggu is a great product. You should buy it. If not for yourself, then do it for our dear Mother Earth. Do it for the planet. Do it for the future. After all, what’s a measly $40 compared to helping to preserve our planet for our children’s children and looking passably fashionable while you’re at it?
