Amazingly HD: Samsung LN46A650 High Definition TV

Televisions are a staple in many households.  If you want to take your TV viewing to the next level a LCD TV is a must.  LCD TVs are designed to take advantage of the digital TV programming standard and DVD movies by offering high picture resolutions to meet the requirement of 720p or even 1080i HDTV signal standards. The Samsung LN46A650 does all this and more. Samsung has always been acknowledged for merging sophisticated style with top of the line technology.

Overview: Samsung LN46A650 weighs close to 50 lbs and measures 44.5 x 3.7 x 28.1 in inches.  Its name has all the buzz words of current technologies for TV:  1080p, 46 inches, LCD, HDTV, and 120 Hz.  Even if you don’t know what these things mean, you know they must be good or else Samsung won’t include them in the product’s very long name.  Subtitles usually include the other buzzwords:  HDMI ports, USB port, special (e.g. gaming) modes, Super Patterned Vertical Alignment, Super Clear Panel, Tri-lingual capabilities, Energy Star Qualified, and more.

What You’ll Love: This is a large visually appealing TV, making it a very attractive addition to anybody’s home theater system.  It also offers superior picture quality.  You can and will get full high definition video and audio experience - as long as the input and input components (e.g. broadcast or movie from DVD player, the DVD player and the cable) are also in HD or are HD capable, respectively.  Try playing a High-Definition movie (made for Blu-Ray movie) recorded on a Blu-ray disc on your Blu-Ray disc player, which is connected to your Samsung LN46A650 High-Definition TV through an HDMI cable.  I assure you; you’ll be blown away by the amazing picture and sound quality.

Even if you don’t have HD materials or components, however, this TV will still give you the greatest amount of detail, the clearest resolution and the best audio possible.  It is also wonderfully convenient.  The four HDMI ports give you the means to connect four input devices to your TV so you don’t have to disconnect your cable box just so you can connect your Blu-Ray disc player.

Full Disclosure: This TV has a timer that lets you set the unit awake at your preferred time.  Thus, if you want to be awakened by the sound of your favorite morning show which you get through your cable service, set the timer for the time when this show airs and your TV will turn on at that time and display the show using input from your cable service.  This is a neat feature - but only if you plug your cable service’s coaxial cable directly to your TV instead of plugging it into a cable box and using an HDMI interface cable to connect that cable box to your Samsung LN46A650 TV.  If you have a setup like the latter, you won’t be able to use the timer feature to trigger the TV to get input from your cable service provider at your desired time.

The Samsung LN46A650 TV also doesn’t let you choose a channel you have not previously picked up through a scan (the channel is not on its list of available channels).  Typing in the channel will not work to bring you to that channel.  The only solution would be to do another scan of all channels so you can pick up the channel, get it included in the list of available channels and thus be able to watch it later on.
