There’s a good reason why professional print-outs have to be outsourced to professional printers.  Professionals know how to get quality prints so you’re never disappointed with the outcome.  But if you thrive on DIY projects, get the Canon Pixma iP4500 inkjet photo printer which will at least ensure you’ll get impressive photos every time - your skills or lack thereof notwithstanding.

Overview: This is a bulky printer made of high-gloss plastic in black-finish with silver accents.  It looks classy and elegant yet very affordable at less than a hundred dollars.  It comes with the driver/software that lets you tweak your default printer settings.  It comes with two paper trays, and you can buy an optional tray for CD/DVD printing.  With this printer, you can print on both sides of the paper and print directly from your digital camera or from your computer.  The printer also comes with basic photo-correction capability.  It has a five-color ink system and a 4,608-nozzle print head that prints very fine ink coverage.  It is energy efficient and generally prints 24 pages per minute.

What You’ll Love: Superb, professional-looking photos with no visible pixelation, track marks and other defects are assured when you use the Canon Pixma iP4500 inkjet photo printer - provided that you set up and calibrated the printer correctly and use high-quality glossy photo paper.  Black and white photos are particularly amazing.  Have photo gallery quality pictures at the touch of bottom! The five-ink system ensures that you don’t have to replace all five colors when one runs out; each color comes in its own cartridge.

The Canon Pixma iP4500 printer is also multi-functional.  It can be used for printing documents composed of text, text-image combos and basic images.  It can also be used for printing directly on CDs and DVDs.  The printer software already has this feature covered, although you do have to buy the CD/DVD feed tray.  If you do mostly plain paper and photo printing, the Canon Pixma iP4500 comes with two separate trays for each.

Full Disclosure: If you’re the type who likes saving money by using ink refills or third-party ink cartridges, steer clear of this printer.  The Canon Pixma iP4500 printer has an inbuilt chip-reader and will work only with original Canon ink cartridges - those with an embedded security chip it recognizes and accepts.  Thus, in the long run, this printer can be expensive to maintain.

The printer also requires at least half an hour of set up.  You’ll have to install the ink cartridges, install the software in your computer, calibrate the printer, do realignment, and troubleshoot whatever troubles arise.  Thankfully, you have to do this time-consuming set-up process only once; after that initial set-up, you’ll find it works like a dream.
